A lot of people actually believe that money is the root of evil… that rich people are evil, greedy, etc… some actually believe that they can’t be ‘spiritual’ and rich.
I think one of the reasons that a lot of Filipinos have these beliefs is because of the teleseryes (television series) and movies. Most of the time, the lead star of the show comes from a poor background and the villains or bad guys are the rich ones.
Watching these kinds of shows or movies make you resent the rich and favor the poor.
Most people are not aware that their feeling of resentment for the rich villain takes root in their subconscious and when it does, they will live it out in their real lives. Even though you might say that you want to be rich, your subconscious will say you don’t want to be rich because rich people are evil,’ or ‘money is evil,’ etc.
This is just one simple illustration of how these beliefs are very hazardous to our financial health.
In reality, money in itself is neutral. It does have the danger to make one greedy and materialistic, but it can also be potentially used for the good. In Acres of Diamonds, Dr. Russell Conwell said:
“Money is power, and you ought to be reasonably ambitious to have it! You ought because you can do more good with it than you can without it. Money printed your Bibles, money builds your churches, money sends your missionaries, and money pays your preachers.... I say, then, you ought to have money. If you can honestly attain unto riches... it is your... godly duty to do so. It is an awful mistake of these pious people to think you must be awfully poor in order to be pious.”
Money is not the root of all evil… but I think the lack of money IS! So, get rid of these ridiculous beliefs, because God doesn’t want us just to get by, He wants us to have more than enough!

Myth 6: Money Is Not Really Important
Here is another myth that’s keeping Filipinos poor. There are those who say, “Pera lang yan… Hindi importante ang pera…” (It’s just money… Money is not important…)
My friend, let me ask you, if you say that your spouse or partner or friend is not really important, do you think they’ll be around you for long?
If you think that a car is not important, would you have it? No. Would you have a horse if it wasn’t important to you? Of course not. It’s the same with money…
Some people would even argue that money is not as important as love. You can’t compare the two. It’s like comparing your heart with your lungs. Couldn’t it be that BOTH are important?!
Understand that money has its place in our society. Love does make the world go round, but money is needed to build churches, schools, to feed the hungry, help the poor, buy people’s basic needs (no matter how much you love your crying baby, he/she needs milk so you have to go buy milk!)
Now I’m not saying that money is the most important thing in the world, but it does affect EVERYTHING else that is important… basic needs, good health, time with loved ones, peace of mind, your ability to help others, etc.
So get these words (‘money is not important’) out of your vocabulary, because the more you think, say and believe it, the more you’re pushing money away from you.

Myth 5: Only Certain Lucky or Gifted People Get Rich
Many Filipinos do not believe in their own capacity to run a business or to be rich. You might say, “I don’t have the guts to… I am not good at… I am shy… I don’t have the skills to… etc.”
The truth is that most rich people are not special in any way – except that they have more money. They are not any smarter, and they are not necessarily famous singers, actors, actresses, sports stars, or inventors. They are just ordinary people who understand the secret of building wealth – and have put it to work.
And you can do the same… It's simply a question of making a decision and thinking the right thoughts.
If singing, acting, or sports are not your gifts, that doesn’t make you less fortunate. I believe God gave each one of us special gifts. There are things difficult for you to do but there are also things that you do effortlessly.
I don’t think God marked you and me as worthy or unworthy. We choose what labels we tag ourselves with. So if you think you can be a millionaire, you can. And if you think you’ll just be a “thousandaire” (I saw this in one shirt), you can too.
Ask yourself what you are good at, what you enjoy doing, and that will provide service to other people. These are your core gifts, and you can start a business with your core gifts. These gifts that make you special give you the opportunity to bless the world and consequently enrich yourself.
Author Marianne Williamson beautifully put it this way, “We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.”

Myth 4: I Don’t Have the Money
Another barrier to Filipinos is money…
You can check out Entrepreneur magazine, and you will read plenty of stories of ordinary people who not only did NOT have money but even started building their businesses in debt because they had bank loans to begin with.
Read Entrepreneur magazine and you'll find small business opportunities of your choice that you could start for less than PHP 100,000 or even less than PHP 50,000.
You can also join a network marketing business for about PHP 2,000 and above. It actually is a legitimate business opportunity where profits can be huge compared to the investment. It’s just that the industry has been tainted by unscrupulous companies and business owners.
Be very careful of scams.
Learning how to identify legit network marketing companies is another topic altogether, but you could already get a lot of information from the Direct Selling Association of the Philippines website www.dsap.ph.
You can also simply cut the cost of your dinner out or movie date and invest this money for your own online business. The internet, they say, is the greatest monetary equalizer. You don’t have to be a tech savvy, computer geek, genius to make money online.
Starting with less than PHP 1,500 a month, a reliable computer, an internet connection, and an idea, you can leverage on the speed, low cost and massive reach of the internet to attract customers and prospects to whatever product or service you offer, even from across the globe.
It’s that powerful.
There are many myths too about building your business online but that again is another topic. In the meantime, did you know that Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO, is a young internet BILLIONAIRE at age 25? Something to think about…it’s not because he had the money to start with.

Myth 3: I Don’t Have the Time to Start A Business
Ahh, the famous excuse…working for somebody can actually eat up quite a bit of your time. Add to that a significant other, kids, commute and where does that leave you, huh? Starting a business for people working more than 80 hours a week MAY be impossible, but for most people working full-time jobs, it IS possible.
If you have time to watch teleserye after teleserye (TV series), watch movies, go on a drinking spree every week or so, play Wii, PSP, or spend hours on Facebook, YouTube, Yahoo, etc., I say you have the time to be rich. In fact, there are business opportunities everywhere that can be started on a part-time basis. You can also start by reading a book or magazine about starting a business or attend a course on money management. Spend 2 to 3 hours a day on your financial education, and you’ll soon find that you’re way ahead of the others.
I just read in a magazine a few days ago about the inspiring story of Gina Alexander, who saw her bag business grow from one kiosk outlet, which she ran after her night shift work at Starbucks, to a multimillion-dollar business today.
My friends, rich or poor, we all have 24 hours in a day. Who can say rich people have more? The question is, how do YOU spend your 24 hours? Do you spend it making yourself rich or making someone else rich?

Myth 2: You Have To Work Hard For Money
Here is another myth instilled in Filipinos’ minds...”You have to work hard for money.” A famous Filipino saying is “Kapag may sipag at tiyaga, may nilaga.”
Did you know that taxi drivers are hard-working? Some of them work 24 hours a day! What about jeepney drivers? The balut vendors? What about your neighbor, your officemate, your spouse, your best friend? Are they hard-working? “May nilaga ba?” Can they stop working today and still make money tomorrow? What about you, my friend, do working hard and being persistent on your job give you financial freedom?
We are too focused on working for money that we missed thinking about having money work for us! Speaking of taxis, I know a guy less than 30 years old who operates about 100 taxis with two partners. With about PHP 1,000 “boundary” per day per taxi, they make PHP 100,000 a day! They put PHP 60,000 back to their business for overhead costs, etc. and divide the rest. That’s PHP 13,333 a day without working hard…that translates to about PHP 400,000 a month! What actually inspired me with this story was this guy I was told just couldn’t get accepted to jobs that he applied for so he eventually ‘ended’ up operating taxis.
Yes, I do believe in hard work, but I also believe in smart work. I realized that “hard work” should not be a lifetime thing if you eventually make your money work for you. There will come a time when we only work because we choose to, not because we have to. We all deserve it, but this can only happen if you are “working hard” right now with the right opportunity and the right people.
If others can do it, you and I can do it. And, no, you can’t ask them to do it for you. ;-)

Top 10 Myths That Keep Filipinos Poor
“The goal of loving the poor is to help them stop being poor.” – Bo Sanchez
When somebody tells you that there is a way to get rich without a job, how do you react? Do you go take a notebook and ask that somebody to teach you how? Nah, I don’t think so. By age 20, we already have a programmed way of thinking. Because of our programming, our common reaction is to immediately doubt or resist the idea of making money without a job.
If most people around you (parents, brother, sister, close friends, relatives) are either employed, self-employed, looking for jobs, or looking for a higher-paying job, chances are your mind will fight back the idea of you being an entrepreneur. I know mine did. It took years for the idea to really sink in that I could be my own boss.
The good news about our mind is that, just like a computer, it can be reprogrammed. Before reprogramming our thoughts though, we need to identify the viruses that polluted our minds. I just picked out what I believe to be the top 10 myths that keep Filipinos poor:
Myth 1: I Did Not Graduate So I Can’t Be Rich
As I said in my previous post, most Filipinos focus too much on getting a college degree. Although it is indeed important, I don’t see it as a requirement for you to be rich. Financial education is more important.
Business owners do not necessarily have college degrees. More and more business opportunities, online opportunities are becoming available for the average Filipino. While entrepreneurship may not be for everyone, I know that it IS doable for anyone. Even with just an average intelligence, if you have the DESIRE to learn, you can do it.
As far as I know, Lucio Tan is a chemical engineering dropout from F.E.U. and yet he is one of the richest people in the Philippines. I have friends whose parents couldn’t afford to put them through college and yet they are now entrepreneurs making much more money than executives I know in the corporate world. I am pretty sure you can name someone with the same experience, wouldn’t you?

Programmed to be 'Poor'
-I am a Filipino. I am programmed to be poor. How can I be rich?-
Did you know that Filipinos are ‘programmed’ to be poor? Here’s one reason why…
What do Filipino parents usually tell their kids to do, especially when their child is already in college? If you are a typical Filipino, the obvious answer would be “Anak, magaral ka nang mabuti para pagkagraduate mo, makahanap ka ng magandang…trabaho” (My child, study hard so that after you graduate, you can get a good, stable job).
I think it’s a risky advice these days. We all know people who already graduated but couldn’t get a well-paying job related to their course, so they just settle for whatever is available. There are those who do land a job in their field but later quit their line of work to again study another course to seek greener pastures (even doctors ‘quit’ to become nurses abroad!).
I learned from my mentor that there are 3 basic types of education.
Scholastic education is where you and I were taught how to read, how to write (and probably also sing) ABC, how to count, how to add and divide, etc. You have to go through this type of education to go to the next.
Professional education is where you and I were taught how to become professionals and/or skilled workers, you know, how to be a nurse, doctor, engineer, accountant, lawyer, pilot, programmer, mechanic, chef, architect, teacher, etc. Some pursue further studies to become more employable. Professional education is the education taught in most universities and colleges, and this is also the education Filipino parents insist their children to complete, i.e. if you are privileged to do so.
Did you notice that the richest people in the Philippines (and in the world) are not employees? That’s right, they’re not. They are entrepreneurs, business owners, and investors. If your goal is to be “comfortable” in life, I think that could be achieved working in someone else’s business. If your goal is to be financially free and help make a richer Philippines, you should start ‘minding your own business.’
I don’t blame our parents, by the way, because our parents’ parents just gave them the same advice. “Study hard, get good grades, and find a good company to work for” advice might have worked for previous generations but in this day and age, the Information Age, there are way better options.
There is nothing wrong with getting a professional education. What’s wrong is that most Filipinos think that their education stops after school and that a high-paying job will solve their financial worries.
Consider your situation now. If you followed the usual advice and got a ‘stable’ job, even if you are working abroad, does it or did it guarantee you freedom from financial worries (bills, rent, kids’ growing tuition fees, credit card debt, medical expenses, loans, etc)? I don’t think so.
The third type of education that is completely neglected is financial education. Financial education is NOT taught in our schools that is why most Filipinos are financially challenged. Passive income, dividends, cashflow, exponential income, growth funds, investing, bull market…were these taught to us?
If it took you AT LEAST 14 years of studying (6 years in elementary school, 4 years in high school, and at least 4 years in college) and some experience to get you to your current income level, it will also take time and effort to unlearn stuff, reprogram your mind, and gain financial education to free you from your job to enjoy both time and financial freedom with your loved ones.
The good news is that getting financial education today is not as expensive as what our parents paid for our professional education. The bad news is, financial ignorance is a million times more expensive if you don’t get yourself educated in this arena.

- Instead of being a couch potato, READ books about money and success! Read first The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace Wattles.
- Get financial mentors – be very careful to whom you listen to because you’re more likely to end up like them.
- Set aside 3 hours a week and play CASHFLOW 101 Board Game.*
* You may contact 0927.247.0943 if you’re interested to play or organize a game for 5-6 players max.
- Immerse yourself on seminars on money and financial success. To name just a few:
- Truly Rich Seminars – www.iamtrulyrich.com
- Financial Freedom 101 Courses – www.empoweringyou.ning.com
- Attracting Wealth Series – www.johncalubtraining.com
- Unleash Success Seminars – www.unleashinternational.com
- Start a small business on the side – sell sandwiches, sell clothing, sell cookies, sell bags, sell vitamins, sell real estate, sell anything! Don’t stop trying even if you keep on failing. What’s important now is what you learn and not what you earn!

Attracting Wealth
I attended John Calub’s free preview of "Attracting Wealth: How to Become a Multi-Millionaire by Harnessing the Law of Attraction" last night. I had an idea on what he’ll be talking about, as I have read The Secret*, The Science of Getting Rich, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, Rich Dad series and other Kiyosaki books, Conversations with God, Bo Sanchez books, and still reading Master Key System among countless books.
(*I’ve seen the movie too more than 10 times and still love to watch it…my all-time favorite and I still listen to the audio book as well.:) Get a free copy of The Secret DVD. Ask me how.)
I wanted to meet this person whose training was highly spoken of by a friend, so it was good that he had a free preview before the actual paid workshop. I am so excited for the workshop though that I already paid for it without the preview.;-)
It was interesting as he started off by saying that setting realistic goals (R of the very familiar S.M.A.R.T. goals) was ‘wrong.’ He said, “Why set realistic goals when you can do the impossible?” Wow, very bold and inspiring! This is the kind of person I want to associate with!
The concept of his training is not unique (you may have read about the Law of Attraction from numerous books), and we teach similar concepts in our company trainings. I like the fact though that he teaches a do-it-yourself system that will ‘allow you to align yourself with the universal laws of prosperity and abundance and to harness the untapped powers of your mind to create the life you want.’
This is what I need right now; I haven’t moved past Chapter One yet of the Master Key System.:-D I know I attracted him and this training into my life. The timing can’t be more perfect.
If you have read the books above or something similar and the Law of Attraction seem to be working against you, e.g. you’re attracting debt, sickness, damaging relationships, or a mind-numbing job, instead of wealth, wellness, or a perfect partner, then this workshop is for you too!
If you are not yet doing as well as you’d like, i.e.
• You have goals that you haven’t achieved yet
• You dream big dreams, not just a regular paycheck
• You feel that you can be more than you are
• You feel that you can do more than what you’re currently doing
• You feel that you can have much, much more than what you’re getting
then this workshop is a great start for you! Learn how to harness the power of the Law of Attraction and meet with like-minded people who are also serious about changing something in their lives.
If you will not act on your dreams, who will?
If you don’t act on your dreams NOW, when will you?

Control Your Destiny

Everyday, I hear people complain about their boss, work, tasks, colleagues, but every single day, you’ll see them drag their feet to the same offices. No choice, you say? What if I AM giving you a choice to work for your dreams, to work on your Future You, the “You” that you want to be? I, for instance, gave some people the rare chance to attend the same training of this extraordinary multi-millionaire (in dollars, take note) for free! Not all grabbed the chance though, because they are busy with their Present “Them.” In my opinion, when it comes to our time, money, health, education, talent, etc., we are all given the choice how to use it, but whoever or whatever controls our destiny influences the choices that we make.
Who controls your destiny? You should, because nobody else will, or worse, somebody else will.

Fire Your Boss
Nah, I didn’t mean that. I don’t want you to fire your boss. I just want to encourage you to work for yourself. If there are reasons why I quit the corporate world, I found better reasons to work for myself. This is not in order of importance though but in the same order as in the list of reasons 'Why I Quit.' Here goes:
Top 10 Reasons to Work for Yourself or Be in Business:
1. Salary. There is no salary, only profits. You decide how much money you make.
2. Promotion. You own the ladder instead of climbing the ladder.
3. Balance. You take the day off when you want and spend it with whom you want. Declare it a holiday today!
4. Job Satisfaction. You have no 'job' but you are taught to make money work for you instead of you working hard for money!
5. Training. Real-life application of what you theoretically learn inside the conference rooms. You don't learn swimming or riding a bike by reading and discussing about it; you go out there, get wet, fall flat on your face, and do it again!
6. Travel/Location. Your commute can be 5 seconds from your bed to your PC.
7. Rewards. Unlimited.
8. Recognition. Fulfillment.
9. Loyalty. To your family, not your boss.
10. Self-Development. As Robert Kiyosaki said, "Leadership is not optional in business." You bring out the best in others and you bring out the best in you.
I therefore tell you not to seek job security but to seek freedom instead, for the MORE you seek job security, the LESS control you will have over your life. The more you give up control (control over how much you earn, what time you sleep or wake up, how much time you can spend with loved ones, etc.), the more you give up your freedom. Your job will always demand more from you and will ‘dictate’ how you live your life. As the saying goes, "You can't finish your work, but your work can finish you."
So why stay in the rat race when you can start your own business now? Risky? I don't think so. Sharon Lechter said, “Our definition of risk is allowing your financial destiny to be under someone else’s control.” I couldn’t agree more.
It’s easier too if you are willing to learn and have a business mentor to learn from. Business is a totally different world, where you can get lost without a guide. You might be wasting both time and money being with the 'wrong' people. You owe it to yourself to try.
Be your best!

Out of My Comfort Zone
I can't help but share this very timely text message that I received a few days after I resigned. It went like this:
"You won't fully enjoy a boat ride unless you remove the rope's knot from the river bank...
Your dog won't fully enjoy his/her 'dog life' unless you remove the chain on his/her neck...
Lesson?
NEVER ever limit yourself when it comes to happiness. Learn how to let go and take risks. Life is much beautiful outside the comfort zone."
Thanks to RG. I would like to add though: "You can't unleash your full potential unless you let go of people (or jobs) that are keeping you from using your true potential."
Spread your wings and prepare to fly.
Be Your Best!

Why I Quit
Top 10 Reasons to Be Part of The Corporate World (or Not!):
1. Steady Paycheck. The boss dictates how much you and I get.
2. Promotion. The company makes it more and more difficult for one to get promoted. Promotion eligibility is so restricted making it almost impossible for anyone to level up for a certain period no matter how deserving! Talk about control, huh.
3. Balance. Most, if not all, people in the rat race do not have the time for the more important things in life due to long days and weekend work. I know some who work 12 to 16 hours a day! I wonder what their loved ones have to say.
4. Job Satisfaction. You are taught to work hard for money instead of making money work hard for you!
5. Training. Someone who lacks training and experience gets promoted to be your supervisor or manager. Great.
6. Travel/Location. Bosses show favoritism and give some employees better assignments, better offices, and better trips (that come with bonds)! The boss can assign you to any company location and force you to double travel time and expenses. No choice.
7. Rewards. The reward for a job well done is...more work!
8. Recognition. Your boss or peer takes credit for accomplishments which were supposed to be yours.
9. Loyalty. I don’t know about you, but I have been a modern slave (an employee) for more than 8 years, and I couldn’t bear the thought of spending another year!
10. Self-Development. I am always doing my best for the companies I worked for, but they are not doing their best for me!
In fairness to the past 3 companies I worked full-time for, I am grateful for the experience, skills development, training, acquaintances, professional and personal relationships I acquired while working there. It’s just that my mind already opened to a whole new world (naks!), and it’s too obvious to ignore.
I thank one of my favorite authors, Robert Kiyosaki, because I now recognize how we were ‘brainwashed’ to work for money instead of money working for us. We were trained to be professionals minding others' businesses instead of minding our own business. I now see the opportunity to work WITH your family instead of FOR your family.
I was a blind follower for years, but not anymore! I just quit the corporate world about a month ago, and it felt sooo good, the sweet taste of freedom! You should try it. :-)
Until next post.
